STAUNTON — Route 522 (North Frederick Pike) northbound is closed in Frederick County, west of Winchester. This is near Route 608 (Hunting Ridge Road) between Winchester and Gainesboro.

A rockslide is blocking all Route 522 northbound lanes.

Route 522 is a four-lane divided highway in this location. Crews are setting up a detour on the southbound side of Route 522 for both southbound and northbound traffic. Route 522 will have a single southbound lane and a single northbound lane in this area.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will keep this traffic pattern until the rockslide can be removed from the northbound side of Route 522.  There is no estimated time for completion of this work, but it is anticipated to extend well into the daylight hours of Saturday, Jan. 14.

Contractors must be mobilized to safely address the rock and debris removal.

Travelers are advised to use caution in this area with the temporary traffic pattern.  Delays may occur.
