STAUNTON – Snow is in the forecast again for the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands. Up to two inches is expected to fall Thursday night through Friday. Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Staunton District will be on duty to plow and treat roadways as needed.

Motorists should closely monitor the forecast for their area and along the route they need to drive. Even light snow accumulation can create slick conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses and untreated roads. VDOT plows and treats interstates first, followed by primary roads and then secondary routes and subdivision streets.

VDOT provides statewide road conditions and traffic cameras at 511Virginia.org. 511 apps are available for Android and iOS devices. Roads with snow conditions are marked minor, moderate, severe or closed.

Road condition definitions:
Closed – Road is closed to all traffic.
Severe – Drifting or partially blocked road.
Moderate – Snow or ice on major portions of the roadway.
Minor – Bare pavement except for isolated spots of snow, ice or slush. Drive with caution.
