Traffic Alert: Section of Starkey Road in Roanoke County will close for railroad crossing repairs

Traffic will need to use local routes around the closure starting March 28

SALEM — Weather permitting, the section of Route 904 (Starkey Road) between Route 613 (Merriman Road) and Route 2017 (Knights Bridge Drive) in Roanoke County will be closed to through traffic starting March 28.

This section of Starkey Road is expected to remain closed for two to three days while Norfolk Southern makes repairs to an at-grade railroad crossing. The repairs and road closure are unrelated to the nearby roundabout construction project at Buck Mountain Road.

Message boards will alert drivers to seek alternate routes. Motorists can detour as follows:

From Route 221, use Ranchcrest Drive to Merriman Road and then Chapparal Drive to Penn Forest Boulevard.  From Route 220, take Buck Mountain Road to Starkey Road.
