Work Completed: Multimodal Improvements

The I-81 Corridor Improvement Program is working to complete over 60 improvements that include but are not limited to operational updates, exit extensions, acceleration and deceleration lanes, and auxiliary lanes to name a few. The multimodal improvements include transit and rail options to broaden and improve transportation access along the I-81 corridor. The following projects are currently underway. Offers nine stops from Bristol to Washington, D.C., including Wytheville, Radford, Christiansburg, Salem, Harrisonburg, Dulles International Airport, and West Falls Church Metrorail Station. The Highlands Rhythm, part of the Virginia Breeze system, is among the first multimodal projects to receive funding through the Interstate 81 Corridor Improvement Program.

The Valley Flyer is part of the Virginia Breeze system.
